analysis of music magazine advertisment (x3)

The artist in the advertisement is the electronic dance music duo 'Basement Jaxx'

media representations
This duo are known not to be seen in any of their music videos so this works well with their representation on this music magazine advertimsnent. So unconventionally they are not seen on their album advertisement neither. This could mean they want their music to be represented because that's whats most important. The advertisement includes a space background with a monkey biting into a leaf representing the bands music because it is full of different things and makes no sense.

Media Language And Forms
The significance of the text is to promote her album and the album only. It includes the main important conventions of promotion, the bands name, the name of the album and what date it is coming on sale. The whole of the advertisement is just a bigger picture of the album cover for 'Rooty' so all the band want to do is sell the album and not gain new fans.  The advertisement is not like any other just like the bands music so they are carrying on the individuality into the promotion. The language is very simple and gets straight to the point of providing information.

media institutions
The institutional source of the text is in magazines such as Q and NME where the advertisements are not fully conventional and the band will be more well known in these magazines so it is for their genre and target audience. It is clear that the band and the label they are on (XL recordings) had a great impact on this publication because it is very similar to the album cover. Its main purposes are promoting the album and i dont think it does very well because their is no imagination and the information about the album release is in very small text.

media audiences
This text will be addressed to lovers of electronic dance music and fans of Basement Jaxx. Secondary the media audience for this advertisement will be the readers of the magazine and people who are putting the magazine on their shelf shops. It will appeal to the primary target audience because it is 'hip' and 'cool' just like their music. Dance music is usually associated with madness and not making sense so this advertisement should target dance fans because it is a abstract advertisement. Basement Jaxx have been around since 1994 so are likely to have fans around 24-30 who have grown up with the band. A wider audience is festival attenders who might have come across Basement Jaxx at festivals such as Glastonbury. The size of the audience is likely to be large because of the success of the music magazine it is being published in.
